Well, now that I’ve removed any semblance of extreme physical challenge from the act of riding my bike, I’m a total and collosal devotee. I have seen the light and want to take a baseball bat to my car. Seriously: that remaining $16k in payments isn’t worth SPIT! Yeah, so what if millions of people have already figured this out? It’s not important to me until I figure it out, and this is my blog, so stop being so judgemental.

My wife would like to interject here to point out that I have a history of jumping headfirst into things. But ignore her. I biked to work once, and I’m a bike nut, fool!

My daughter’s day care had an “in-service” day. I don’t know why they call it “in-service” because it looked decidedly out of service to me. Anyway, it was my turn to stick around Casa Awesome and keep an eye on the bairn. I spent last night looking at all the possibilities for transporting her between day-care and home and decided on a trailer for now. It will handle inclement weather better than a rear-carrier and (hopefully) be easier to get her in and out. I really want to do get an iBert Safe-T front-mount seat, but I don’t think I have the room between the handlebars and the frame for the mounting stem. So, we took a trip to Target this morning and bought a Schwinn trailer. My daughter helped me put it together, but wanted no part of a ride in it before her nap.

In the afternoon, we took a trip to see Mommy at IU Press. This wasn’t the original destination. I was just going to go to Bryan Park, a few blocks away, but decided to get more ambitious. Before I knew it, I was up Lincoln to 7th street, heading westbound, in traffic. That was a bit more intense than I was hoping for, and I’ll have to plan better next time so that I’m not dragging my daughter in a small aluminum cage between two SUVs piloted by students. I called a co-worker from Internet2 since she works right next to my wife. She was interested in seeing the new bike, so she popped out for a few minutes before a conference call. Ah, those stressed out people who actually had to work today!

The route back was via 7th street again, then up Washington until I hit Bryan Park to play in the new playground. I had to bribe my daughter back into the carrier with a Fig Newman since she’s still a bit nervous about the crinkly noise her feet make. She’s also not thrilled with the pink helmet I got her. I contend that it’s because its pink and she wants something a little less gender-specific. But, it was Target: my choice was that or one of a variety of SpongeBob or Dora versions. I’ll have to paint some flames on it later.

All in all, a fun day. Had to use the car in the AM to get breakfast at Cafe D’lish and get the trailer. Tomorrow, I’ll try picking my daughter up from day care with the trailer.
